Nowadays,in comparison with my childhood habits, children hardly ever play with board games. They are looking forward to playing video games in their free time.In fact,it is often said that board games had been practically forgotten in our current society, although I must make clear that,in my childhood memories, they were just the tip of the iceberg of my past times.Games such as monopoly, risk or scrabble are unforgettable for our generation. However, when we watched the film Jumanji, this supernatural board game takeS it up a notch for us.
Jumanji is an American fantasy film directed by Joe Johnston in 1995.It is based on a children’s book by Chris Van Allsbusrg which was edited in 1981.It is absolutely clear that Robin Williams is essential in this film with the role of Alan Parish, although Tom Hanks,Arnorl Schwarzenegger or Bruce Willis among other stars were the first choice. As a curiosity, its special effects were trendy in that time and Stephen L.Price was one of the main parts in this project, for that Jumanji was dedicated to him due to the fact he died before the film’s release.Last but not least, there were two recent sequels,Jumanji:Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji:The next level (2019) which were interpreted by Dwayne Johnson,The Rock.
1969,Alan Parish finds a game which was hidden over 100 years and brings at home in order to play with his friend,Sarah Whittle. The boy is the son of the owner of Sam’s shoe company and his father wants to attend to a boarding school against child,s opinion. After his arguments,Alan decides to run away when he will be an adult, this night Alan starts to play this mystery board game with Sarah. However,it isn’t the typical board game because the crystal balls move by themselves.Alan starts the game and receives a message which tells him to wait in a jungle until someone rolls a five or eight, and he is sucked into his game. After 26 years,Judy and Peter Stepherd move to the Parish mansion.Accidentally, they find the board game and they continue with the play.....and the jungle, its wild animals along with the disappeared Alan Parish and the adult Sarah follow the sound of tribal drumbeats of Jumanji.
The performances and the script were no doubt off the scale ,but I’d highly recommend this movie for its priceless life lesson about Robin Williams : this great actor not only brings us emotional and funny roles during his successful career, but also worderful behaviours helping people in his personal life.Yet,his dramatic ending will always be in our minds.
.......Afraid? You don’t know even know, what afrais is.
I couldn’t agree with you more
