THE IRISH GOODBYE : One hundred and one wishes

 

Not only is May a beautiful month for all mothers,but also is pretty cute owing to my Mum’s birthday.For this reason,it’s a great idea to write about the unconditional love of our mothers.The tradition in Spain,it’s to visit our mothers and give them a gift,especially flowers.Unfortunately,in this short movie,an Irish goodbye,their characters (Turlough and Lorcan) can’t live his mum because of she recently passed away.Then again,thanks to Lorcan,they could carry out his mum’s last wish.

An Irish Goodbye is a short videotape which was released in 2022.This hilarious black comedy was produced,written and directed by Tom Berkeley and Ross White.During 2022 and 2023,the film had achieved uncountless awards but,and there’s a big but that its successful moment was when Am Irish Goodbye won the 2023 Academy Award for the best live Action short film.

In a Irish farm.Turlough (James Martin) and Lorcan (Seamus O’Hara) live two brothers who had just lost their mother.After his mum last goodbye,the priest comments to the brothers about a list with things to do after her death.Turlough doesn’t want to know anything over this list and he just thinks about selling the farm and live in London with his brother Lorcan,who has Down syndrome.Although Lorcan absolutely disagree with that idea.So,Lorcan has a wonderful plan.He creates a ‘bucket list’ to stay on the farm where the two brothers and his mother was fully delighted.

I must make clear that I rarely write about short films,but in this case I had to do it.To my mind,an Irish Goodbye is gloomy but lovely,and most of all,uplifting.I loved this short videotape,one of those films that make you smile through painful situations.

STREETS OF FIRE: Tonight is what it means to be young

It’s a truth universally acknowledge that we don’t know what we’ve got until it's gone.Lately,I was thinking about my past teenager’s memories due to a shocked situation which I suffered this month.Finally,I’ve come to the conclusion that those moments were really happy to me.Apart form,there were relatives who are not now,my parents were younger,besides the street days were absolutely unforgettable with my friends.It’s crystal clear that this Streets of Fire is not a clear sane example over adolescence, but in it this essence is included.

Street of Fire is an American musical film.It was directed by Walter Hill in 1984.Its well-known cast and mainly the soundtrack arranged  by Fire Inc are considered are highly appreciated to cinema lovers.It is often said that the owner of this famous song was Boney Tyler,who is singing ‘Tonight is what it means to be young’ for years.The thing is Fire Inc was the first one to sing it.Yet,despite these previous points,the film went through an unsuccessful box office bomb.However,it is also true that its legacy and its impact on others film markets is absolutely undisputed

In the humble but dangerous district of Richmond,the popular singer Ellen Aim (Diana Lane) is kidnapped after his concert by ‘The Bombers’,which is a cruel street gang.To help Ellen,her music group and meanly her Ellen’s boyfriend Billy Fish (Rick Moranis) besides his manager call to his ex-boyfriend,Tom Cody (Michael Paré).Tom Cody with his pal,the ex-soldier McCoy get introduced to the dangerous and unknowledge areas where ‘The Bombers’ are absolutely the leaders.Fights,car persecution along with action shotgun are the way to achieve their goal,which is none other than Ellen arrive the next concert.

An ambitious and highly stylized action musical.Hill was really committed to the world building here (sets,costumes,and dialogue all add to the atmosphere) and the result is downright hypnotic.However,We never could see the full trilogy they planned.The scenes in the concert are an absolutely gift.

BIG FISH : Dreams are what keep a man going

 

It’s a well-known fact that the comfort zone and avoiding changes is the most convenient way of living.Yet,I remember one English mate,Raquel,who told me that it is important to teach children the important to live in a constant change as a teaching for their future.Big fish is a clear example with the fish metaphor.There,we understand that we are like the fish and the our limitations in life are like the fishbowl.In Big fish,we realize that in order to achieve our goals,we have to figure things our based on said limitations.Keeping with the metaphor,if we escape the fishbowl we are free,we can determine our course,and achieve greatness.At the same time,leaving the fishbowl(or comfort zone) can be terrifying because we don’t know what’s out there.

Big Fish is a romantic fantasy film.This idea was written in 1998 with the same name by Daniel Wallaced,later Tim Burton,in 2003 adapted this novel to the big screen.The first negotiation was with Steven Spielberg,who was planned to include Jack Nicholson for the role of Edward Bloom.Yet,Columbia Studios changed its idea,and it turned up to Tim Burton.The film received nominations in any relevant awards,especially an Oscar and a Grammy for Danny Efman’s original score.Needless to say,Big fish,in general,garnered positive reviews and a huge economic benefit.The cast is completed by Ewan McGregor,Danny DeVito,Jessica Lange,Albert Finney among others.

During Will Bloom’s wedding,his father Edward (Albert Finney) recalls some stories regarding Will (Edward McGregor).This situation becames a problem between them,and as a result Will gest angry with his father.Three years later,Will returns to his house to take care of his sick father.In that sad moment,Will has to listen his father’s stories.To Will,these fantastic stories are impossible to believe and after that he decides to keep living his career as a professional sport player out his hometown,he believes that he lives in a fishbowl here.What he didn’t know about stories and his characters will be always in each situation during his way. The reconciliation between them along with the necessity to change his future to Will are the most relevant in this magical shoot.

First and foremost,it’s fair to point out that the theme of reconciliation between father and son,it’s so significant because Burton suffered about it in his life.Big Fish is a charming innovation,which with dazzling visuals and interesting stories,it brings to us another rewarding and different Tim Burton’s movie.In my view,if it was less predictable,it would have been better.

JOKER : Don’t forget to smile

 

There is not a doubt that mental health is one of the most relevant issues in our current society.Sadly,in the past,this situation was hardly ever taked into account and people who went though whatever mental issue were considered almost a crazy.Fortunately,this situation has changed and more and more people try to help and solve this problem.It is true that a psychologist could help us,but it is important that society contributes to the cause.Joker is a clear example,his traumatic past and his current health problems make understand that behind this villain not all that glitters is gold.

Joker is an American psychological thriller directed by Todd Phillips and fabulously interpreted by Joaquin Phoenix.This film was produced by Warner Bros,after drawbacks to achieve this complex plot,the movie was released in 2019.It’s a well known-fact that Joker is based on the DC Comics character,Batman.Yet,the role of Joker in this film is a new view of this problematic character.It’s fair to point out that this film was a box-office success and with numerous awards,especially with Phoenix’s performance.Lass but not least,Joker received positive reviews,not only for Joaquin Phoenix,but also for screenplay,plot,musical score or visual style.

 

1981,in Gotham city,Arthur Fleck works as a clown.Arthur lives in a awfulness situation due to his depression along with his mother’s illness.Besides,he goes through a neurological disorder which makes him laugh at inadequate situations.Yet,as his mother said,he had a purpose to bring laughter and joy to the world.One day,after his diary show,the comic is attacked by some wrongdoes.After that,Arthur comes back home,he and his mother Penny (Frances Conroy) are watching a Tv show of the well-known presenter Murray Franklin (Robert De Niro).In this program,Arthur imagines that he is taking part in this show,there Murray and audience love him,although it is an hallucination,Arthur believes that it could be possible in the future.The day after,Arthur’s mate gives him a gun to saveguard over delinquents.However,not only gives him protection,but also a high self-esteem and a huge change in his future personality.Now,Joker will be his hallmark.

This film is a masterpiece to watch! Joaquin Phoenix portrays the Joker in a way that makes you feel pity for the character and at the same time,you want to hate him.This film is absolutely perfect,and I would highly recommend watch.There is not doubt that it is one of he best films released in the last few year.

AVATAR : Protecting the world

Have you ever imagined how the planet will be in 2154? When I was a child,I believed that 2000 year would be something totally different as 80s was,for instance like the film in Back to the future could see.Yet,it’s true that in comparison with these years there are remarkable differences.For that,it’s almost impossible to find out how the world will be in the future,albeit James Cameroon gives us a swell clue with Avatar.

Avatar is an American science-fiction film.This movie was directed,written and produced by James Cameron in 2009.Despite that the first steps of this movie started in early 90s,nevertheless Cameron considered that the technology wasn’t prepared for his ambitious idea.Fortunately,Cameron with some relevant Digital companies obtained new visuals effects and amazing develop,as a result Avatar was considered an utter successful,Besides,Avatar won three Academy Awards (the best art direction,best cinematography and best visual effects),apart form more nominations and other awards.After too many years waiting,on December,2022,James Cameron released ‘Avatar:The way of water’ which has broken box office records.It is probably that in 2024 he releases ‘Avatar 3.

In the middle of 22nd century,in Polifemo a humanoid aboriginal species habits in total freedom.They are a Na’vi tribe called Avatar.This tribe is extremely strong,blue-skinned and live in harmony with nature.Meanwhile,humans are trying to colonize Pandora,a moon close to Polifemo.In order to achieve more informed over Polifemo,Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a disable marine,is sent to investigate Pandore via a scientific program.He is chosen because his twin passed away and he had signed up to in this operation.There,Jake will be a part of this tribe to explore their behaviours.Yet,when Jake and other colleges arrive Pandore,are attacked but Jack is rescued by one Avatar.At that moment,Jack becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.

It might not be the film that changes your perspective of life thought self-reflection,but it is beautiful and emotional .The suspense,music,characters and visualizations almost made me tear up in a few scenes.

MICKEY ONCE UPON A CHRISTMAS : It’s time to open your present.

This film review is dedicated to my little children,my nephew Jorge 

As I mentioned in some Christmas reviews,It is one’s favorite season.It’s crystal clear that our personal situation changes and our Yuletide meetings have also changed.Yet,during the last 5 years,my Christmas has a different colour.My nephew gives me happiness everyday and his joy give us a beautiful Christmas.In general,all children give a wonderful atmosphere and for this reason this review is dedicated to all of them with the most famous cartoon,Mickey Mouse.

First and foremost,I’d like to talk about Micky Mouse.It’s a well known fact that this cartoon character is one of the world’s most famous and recognizable acclaimed fiction characters of all time.This animated mouse was created by Walt Disney.I must make clear that there are an infinitive points and anecdotes to comment about Mickey Mouse,maybe I’ll write in another review,but I’d like to point out that his first featured was in 1928 in a short film and Mickey was became the first cartoon figure to have a star one the Hollywood Walk on Fame.

Mickey once upon a Christmas shows perfectly as Mickey Mouse is and it is an ideal film to watch in family in our Nativity.This animated  Xmas film was produced by Walt Disney Television Animation in 1999.It’s relevant to point out that this film won the Award for Best Animated feature film in an European festival.This film includes three different stories with the well-known characters who usually appear with Mickey,Donald Duck,Pluto,Goofy,Minnie Mouse among others.Last but not least,in 2004 there was a sequel,which is called Mickey’s twice Upon a Christmas.

This film is clear separated in three stories.The first part is ‘Donald Duck : Stuck on Christmas’ is a retelling of Groundog day.Next one,’A very Goofy Christmas’ in which  Goofy tries to explain the wonderful moment about Santa Claus to his son’s skepticism.And Finally,’Mickey and Minnie’s gift of the magi’,they recreate the classic tale of Christmas selflessness.

Mickey’s Once upon a Christmas has 3 great short stories with touching messages for the Nativity season.Definitely,It’s nice little copilation of classic Mickey Mouse Chritmas cartoons each one teaches good lessons and morals loved watching this as a kid

…Christmas isn’t about candy canes or lights all aglow,it is the hearts that we touch,and the care that we show.

CLASS OF 1984 : We are the future and nothing can stop us!!

 

Nowadays,it is usual to read or watch some impressive news related to bullying at school.Abuse or fighting are to order the day.Besides,this month is Halloween,it’s true that this period should be a festive time,yet some polemic students use this situation to afraid the rest.Class of 1984 is a culte movie,which students using their tematic costumes to create horror in this highschool,and mainly to their teacher.

Class of 1984 is a crime and thriller film.It was directed by Mark Lester in 1982,which was based on a story novel by Tom Holland.It’s crystal clear that its strong points were the unforgettable theme song ‘I am the Future’ by Alice Cooper and the punk image which was popular in this period.After this first movie,there were two next sequels,Class of 1999 (1990) and Class of 1999 Ii :The Substitute (1994) both with the similar plot that the previous one.Last but not least,it’s fair to point out that this film was banned in different countries due to its violent scenes.Yet,finally it was accepted with an ‘18’ rating.

Andrew Norris arrives as a music teacher at a high school.Andrew is enthusiastic with his new activity,but he doesn’t know the type of the high school which he is starting to work.Yet,at the first glance when he realizes that one workmate carries out a gun,he realizes what type of highschool is.In his first class day,Andrew suffers uncomfortable comments and situations from a group of enrolments despite the rest of the students are not equal and they want to learn.Andrew discovered that this vandalism group  of students,Peter’s band,commercial with drugs.After this day,the Andrew’s life in the highschool becomes an absolute drama.The youngest band starts to destroy his work material,athermorizing his family and attack him. 

Class of 1984 is a clasic movie,and it works with quiet,strong efficiency to achieve more or less what we expected from a movie with such a title.It is violent,scary,contains boldly outlined characters,and gets us involved.To our generation,it had a strong impact watch it.

AS A GOOD IT GETS : Brace yourself for Melvin

What is your rarely? Honestly,it’s undeniable that everyone has any obsession or strong mania which we cannot avoid it.In my view when you go through this situation every day and it scapes of out control,there is not doubt that it is a neurotic,in fact which is likely to happen in a commited moments.

As Good as it gets is an American comedy-drama.This amazing film was directed by James L.Brooks in 1997.It is uncontested that the starts Jack Nicholson and Helen hunt leave a mark on the audience give rise to their roles.These roles made them to win the Academy Award for Best Actor and Best Actress.According to Nicholson career,it is the second highest earning film,behind Batman.As final curiosity,the dog Verdell was played by six different Brussels Griffons,although Jill the Dog was the most screen time.

New York City,Melvin Udal (Jack Nicholson) is a best-selling writter.His life seems to be normal but he has an obsessive-compulsive disorder.To Melvin his daily life and behaviour is perfect,but the rest of the people believe are off the scale.Everyday,Melvin goes to the same restaurant and he use the same table.There,He takes and special interest in one waitress,Carol Connelly (Helen Hunt) who is the only person to server and tolerate his uncouth behavior.One day,Simon Bishop (Greg Kinnier),Melvin’s neighbor goes through an assualt at home and he should be hospitalized.For that,Melvin should take care of Verdel,Simon’s dog.Despite he drags his feet on it given that he doesn’t like to touch dogs,he becomes loved to him.

The movie was simply great! The actings were so natural extraordinary. The script was simple yet intricately meaningful.To my mind,it is a really good Jack Nicholson film with him pulling off a great performance like he always does, Greg Kinnear and Helen Hunt doing a solid job, and a story that worked perfectly.

COCO : Nothing is more important than family

 

This review is dedicated for all grandmothers,especially to my grandmothers,my mum who is the best grandma,for Angustias (who passed recently away).

This month would be the birthday to my grandmother,Catalina.I was really young when my grandma passed away and I don’t have too much memories but I can’t avoid saying than she was so loving and affective.It’s a well known fact that the grandmothers always love their grandson and this love is something we could never forget.The film ‘Coco’ is a clear example of this love.

Coco is an American computer-animated film.It was produced by Pixel Studio with Walt Disney Pictures in 2017.This fantasy film was based on an original idea by Lee Unkrich.The film was considered as the best Animated film in 2017.This fantastic videotape not only received multiple awards,but also it grossed a huge raising.Originally,the main character was called Marco,but ended up calling Miguel.This curious change was due to the fact this name fit better with the music lyrics.Last but not least,the title Coco is inspired by the Mexican holiday,Day of the Dead.

In a fictitious village,Santa Cecilia (Mexico),a child,Miguel,lives with his family.Miguel loves music,especially his favourite singer Ernesto de la Cruz.Yet,his family doesn’t accept his avocation due to the fact his grandparent abandons his grammy for becoming a professional musician.One day,while Miguel is looking at a family picture,he realizes that his grandpa takes the Ernesto de la Cruz’s guitar.At that moment,Miguel pursues in secret with his dream, and he signs up to a musical contest,but when his grandma knows this situation,she gets angry and hides Miguel’s guitar.However,he decides to search his guitar and he finds it in the mausolea familiar.There,he starts to take it and he is occasionally moved to the land of the Dead.In this world,for Miguel all questions about his family pastimes will be easy to understand.

This movie is absolutely beautiful,incredible and one of the best Disney/Pixar movies I have ever seen.This was a film that made me think about my family and grandparents and never fails to make me cry.I will 100% recommend!

ALIEN : The eighth passanger

Is there life outside of Earth? There are hypotheses which require solid scientific evidence to support that there is.Arguably,in the field of astrological research and space missions, we are still immersed in this search and investigation process.It’s a well known fact that the film Alien was a pioneer over this theme,and I’m sure it was absolutely relevant in the detect possible extraterrestrial life.

Alien is a science fiction movie.The director,Ridley Scottand,showed us this unforgettable film in 1979.This classic film was based on a story of Dan O’Bannon,who also wrote the whole plot over this movie.Alien is considered one of the greatest science fiction and horror movie and it is mainly attributed to the role of Sigourney Weaver.Its success was and is nowadays huge not only won it the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects,but also is a media franchise which involves comic,tv series or novels among others.This sequel seems to be neverending,Aliens (1986),Alien 3 (1992),Alien Resurrection (1997) and some of them  creates with Predator brand such us Alien vs Predator (2004 and Requiem in 2007) complete by far the prestigious name of Alien.

The members crew of the space tug Nostromo is coming back to Earth,yet,during this journey,they find out an alert close to the moon.Despite some opinions against of this investigation,the company policy forces to do it.The tug suffers some damage,while engineers and the warrant officer Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) try to repair,Dallas ( Tom Skerritt),Kane (John Hurt) and Lambert (Veronica Cartwright) check the area.This members find a weird signal from one alien ship.The situation turns up complex when they lost the comunication from the Nostromo.Be that as it may,the situation becames a great discover when they find several egg-like objects,in that moment a criature like an alien goes out to the object and it impacts to the Kane’s face.After that,the crew wants to decide to save their mate or save their own lives.

A classic!.You can feel the emotion during this film,the pure horror of being inside the compact structure,stranded from civilization,with a psycological murderous monster.There is not doubtmthst it is one of the greatest Sci-fi movies of all time! Have watched it many times over the years.
