SMURFTS : An adventure that will blue you away

 

When you were little,what cartoons did you use to watch? Fortunately,to my generation,the variety of them was amazing.From David the gnome,Dungeons and dragons or Willy Fog among others.Yet,there was one of them which was really charming.I am talking about the smurfts.I’d like to point out that this time,my nostalgia make me decide on our summer film.To be honest,I have to reckon that the film didn’t get my expectations according to my childhood momeires.Yet,it is also true that it was another unforgettable moment with my nephew.

Smurfts is a live-action movie in 2025.This highly knowledgeable American toon is based on the Smurfts comic book.The film is directed by Chris Miller and written by Pam Brady.It is true that the Smutfs are highly attractive,principally for children.As a result the film has grossed a huge successful worldwide,despite its adverse reviews.Another point to bear in mind is that Rihanna is included in many aspects of the film,not only as a voice actor,but also as a producer along with writing and recording original songs.It is crystal clear that her participation is a strong point. 

All is happiness in the smurf village…well not all.There is an unnamed Smurf who is unfortunate due to he doesn’t have a name or a quality to give him a name,such as Vanity Smurft,Grouchy Smurft,Brainy Smurfts or Papa Smurf.One day,while the unnamed Smurf and Smurfette are waling in the woods,the unnamed received a power which gives him a magic energy and as a result a smurf name.Yet,this weird power is a consequence of the intergalactic Evil Wizard Alliance,who handle Gargamel’s brother,Razamel.His main purpose is to destroy the smurf village and,he uses this weird power to get it. 

There is not doubt that this film is colorful amd fairly fast-pased,with a strong voice cast and possitive message for kids.Furthermore,the director Chris Miller’s take on the little blue gnomes shows a of true magic.

…There is a place.A place that no knows sadness,where even feeling blue is a happy thing.

LILO AND STICH : Ohana

 

As every summer,my nephew and I start with our particular marathon of summer cinema films.This time,we were watching Lilo and Stitch.I’m preaching to the choir that we have friends more important than some members of family.As the saying goes ‘ Friends are the family we choose'.At first glance,sometimes,we met someone whom we deem a person or a pet that could pass tiptoe and finally he became a part of our lives.In this film,Lilo is looking forward to having a pet but she doesn’t know that a special pet will be part of her kinship. OK

Lilo & Stitch is an animated American film.It was produced by Walt Disney and directed by Deam Fleischer Camp in 2025.The original idea was developed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois who was boosted by Disney 2002.This film is fully based of the traditional animated story,with some elements also based on the film’s animated sequels and spin-off television series.There is not doubt that the main character is Stitch,who is a funny but naughty 'animal,

Stitch is so difficult to catalogue!.His dialogue is so limited,mostly consisting of gibberish and a few Hawaiian words,was a deliberate choice to make him more endearing and memorable

A Hawaiina girl named Lilo (Maia Kealoha) lives happily with her sister Nani (Sidney Elizabeth Agudong.Yet,their circumstances is not the best one due to their parents passed away and Nani has to get money for the rent.So,the social worker tries to convince to Nani that the best opcion is the separation.Yet,to Lilo,the issue would be solved with a new pet.While on planet Turo,Dr.Jummba Jookiba is creating an experiment to send to destroy the Earth.He called it Experiment 626,although he will finally call Stitch,when he arrives on Earth.After a complex and accidentally triptrip,Stitch arrives at Lilo’s home.There,Stitch is not the typical pet,he is a troublemaker.This visit more than helped the matter,it highly increased the problematic with the social worker.

It’s the perfect summer film for the whole family,with wonderfully comforting scenic shots,exceptional performances,and a lovely message about found families that feels deeply necessary today.

FRECUENCY : The future is listening

 

Every single day I think the same,I would like to talk with him for at least 5 minutes.In that time,I would like to tell my dad him  that he was the best father that I could ever have.I reckon that I talk with myself in silence,simulating one of our conversations.I usually look forward to seeing you in the sky.And frequently I say ‘ Papa,if you could see that..’.Unfortunately,my father is not here,but there is a frequency which will always connect us.This film is a wonderful example of this connection.

Frecuency is an American science-fiction film.It was directed by Gregory Hoblit and written by Toby Emmerich in 2000.This film received positive reviews and its budget was highly increased in its grossed.I’d like to point out that not only was its strong and famous cast which the key to its success,but also its extraordinary effects of the temporally-displaced conversation between father and son.These interacts don’t take place all at once.It means that the speed of some actions in the past seems synced to the speed of the effects appearing in the present,while others can take only a fraction of a second in the past.These techniques were revolutionary at that time.

After 30 years,John Sullivan (Jim Caviezel) hasn’t overcome his father’s passing away.His father Frank (Dennis Quiad) passed away while he was working as a fireman.John lives in the same flat,and one day he discovers an old frequency radio.John has just suffered a breakup and he decides to keep in touch with his ex-girlfriend.Yet,due to an unusual Aurora Borealis activity,John achieves to talk with his father the day before of the fire.His son tries to avoid that his father doesn’t go to the building in order to avoid the dramatic incident.Although it is difficult to get that Frank to understand that he is talking with his future adult son.At first glance,he is reluctant to follow this advice.

Frecuency is an intelligent science-fiction thriller that also happens to be a solid father/son movie.It probably won’t rewrite the history of time-bending movies,but there is not doubt that this movie doesn’t let you indifferent.

THE FATHER : Who exactly am I?

You were always on my mind and I will always love you,daddy…

This film review may be the most difficult that I’ve ever written.A little over a month ago,my life and my mind changed and they are absolutely empty.It is sad but,society forces me to continue.Yet,my sadness is in the same place as it was this last horrible 16th of April.

There is not doubt that my life will never be the same.My father taught me many things,but one of them is that you shouldn’t be worried about future problems.You should be worried and try to solve them when they will happen.My father was my friend,my ‘buddy’ (as he used to call me),my mentor,my main support system,but overall my dear dad.

I promise that I’m going to do the best every day although every single day I think life is less beautiful.I know you are close to me and you want that me to be happy.I will always love you,daddy…

This review is not exactly my example,but it includes the deeply of father’s love.

The Father is a drama film directed by Florian Zeller.In 2020,when this film was released had a strong criticism due to its controversial topic.Yet,these opinions finally disappear and end up to be acclaimed by critics.As a result,The father received six nominations at the 93rd Academy Awards.There,Antony Hopkins was the oldest actor to win this award with 93 years old,besides the films achieved the best adapted screenplay.As a final curiosty,Florian Zeller included the song ‘The Pearl Fisher’ because Hopkins love this one.

Anne (Olivia Colman) visits his father (Anthony Hopkins),who suffer dementia,to spend time with him.Yet,this time his visit involves that she is thinking to move out another city.The relationship is difficult between them.Anny refused his career and his personal life to take care of his father.In his struggle to achieve the goal,Anne hires many caretakers to take care him but anyone is not useful to Anthony.On the other hand,there is not doubt that the Anthony’s illness is not easy,and it generates the doubts of his daughter's love.

The Father is an overwhelmingly devastating depiction of the painfully progressive disease taht is dementia.Anthony Hopkins delivers a performance.One of the best movies I’ve seem in the last couple of years.

FRIED GREEN TOMATOES : Towanda

 

Deeds not words..Does this phrase you sound familiar? .

When I was in Manchester,there was a certain statue which grabs my attention.It’s located in St.Peter Square.The statue is of Emmeline Pankhurst (it’s also called ‘Rise up women’) and is a proper tribute for standing up for women’s rights back in the day.So,Fried Green Tomatoes is a clear example of that,this film is a glass ceiling in that moment : Women empowering women.This historical representation of women’s rights was counteracted by the characters’ actions, showing the audience that women are competented not by the rights they are given but by their will to become the people they want to be.

Fried Green Tomatoes is an American drama film.It is directed by Jon Avnet in 1991.This emblematic movie was based on a novel called Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe.In terms of grossing,the film was a complete success,despite of its low-budget.Besides,this film was released in numerous of theaters in the USA.It received positive reviews and as a result two Academy Awards.Originally,the film was created the story for a musical,yet Jon Avnet didn’t disagree with the idea of Idgie and Ruth singing their way through the story.As a final point,it is true that there is a real Whistle Stop Cafe,it is located in Georgia and the visitors could enjoy the original plate of freid green tomatoes,like Idgie and Ruth.As a final point,I would like to mention that there are some theories which consider that Nanny and Idgie are the same person,but Jon Avnet and the book never mentions it.

Evelyn Couch (Kathy Bates) is married to his unconcerned husband Ed,who doesn’t take care his relationship.Evelyn usually visits her aunt in a nursing home.There,she meets Ninny (Jessica Tandy),a talkative and cheerful elderly woman and starts a fairly friendship.One day,Ninny talks about a story in the town of Whistle shop.This story covers two young women,Idgie (Mary Stuart Masterson) and Ruth (Mary-Louise Parker).Both they suffered a devasted situation when Jamison tragically passed away.He was Idgie’s older brother and Ruth’s boyfriend.At first glance,the girls’ link is not the best one,yet over the years they end up inseparably.The film exchange the pretty narrative between Idgie and Ruth,and Evelyn and Ninny.

Fried Green Tomatoes is iconic in its presentation of love across the years,across generation and across boundaries.It’s a tamed but still powerful love story and a lesbian classic,if only in subtext.

A BUG’s LIFE : Ants are not meant to server grasshopper.

 

What are your family traditions? Generally,many families have special practices like going to the same restaurant  or eating their favourite birthday cake,or bedtime routines or eating a special pizza every Friday like my friend Ivan.In my case,I love this type of traditions,my favourite one is when my nephew comes to my home.This day,we usually have the same mores,but our favourite one is watching A bug’s life at the bedroom.These traditions are part our special relationship and our essencia.It is crystal clear that we will keep these memories forever.

A Bug’s life is an American animated film.This production from Pixar studios was the second one after the well-known Toy Story (1995).The movie was created in 2000 by John Lasseter and Andrew Stanton.Needless to say that the film was a complete success,for the audience and for commercial benefits.Yet,there was a controversial point during its production,between Steve Jobs and Lasseter,due to there were two similar films,Antz which was released in the same period of time.Finally,I would like to comment a curiosity.When Flik,the main character,arrives in the cit,one of the billboard signs advertises show the production of the also well-known The Lion King,which was released a year before of Bug’s life.

Flik,a persistent but also clumsy ant.is always thinking about creating new inventions.He lives in ant island with a colony of ants,where the grasshoppers decide the rules.Flik is really famous here but his collections of failures.One day,during a get-together,one of his inventor destroys the food offering.The hoppers are so angry for that and this fact involves negative consequences for the colony.As a compensation,the colony decides to get rid to Flik and sends him off.To Flik could be a punishment,yet it starts a new adventure and his expected opportunity as a inventor.

This movie is definitely an underrated classic.The characters are amazing and the story is actually original after the huge success of Toy Story.There is not doubt,A Bug’s life is a perfect movie to watch an uncle and nephew.

GLADIATOR : My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius

 

What are the main reasons why audience considers Gladiator to be one of the best films ever made? There is not doubt that the role of Maximus,its screenplay,its cast along with the ending are its strong points.It is crystal clear that we are in front of a masterpiece and a must if you are cinema lover 

Gladiator is a historical film which was directed by Ridley Scott in 2000.This story was inspired by the novel ‘Those About to Die’ by Daniel P.Mannix.Yet,the final idea was developed by Francozi,who also written the screenplay.It’s important to remark that the production was really complicated due to the plot was written several times.There is not doubt that the story of Maximus Decimus Meridius was a blockbuster with numerous positive audience reviews and along with its global recognise.All these facts made Gladiator won five Academy Awards,apart from other prestigious accolades.As a curiosity,the role of Russell Crowe in the area scenes wasn’t straightforward for him.He injured multiple times,one fall resulted a hip problem and another accident broke his foot.Finally,A sequel,Gladiator II has been just released in 2024.

AD 180,after the victory against Germanic tribes,Maximus Decimus Meridius (Rusell Crowe) returns home.There,he is considered an absolutely idol,especially for the Emperor Marcus Aurelius,above his son Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix).The Emperor ponders that his son is not adequate for this role and Maximus should be the successor.Yet,Commudus is not delighted with the idea and he is capable of all to be proclaim the new emperor.However,this fact enrages to Maximus,who turns a gladiator to avenge the murders as his family and the Emperor

The fusion of the ancient and the modern is seamless.Gladiator does indeed deliver the glory that was Rome,but it also clinically dissects the assumptions on which it was built.
